Falcon Field, AZ - 23 February 2007

This was my first stop of a quick run around the Phoenix area – West, North and East airfields today, Yuma on Saturday for the airshow, then South and East again on Sunday.

So, after spending what seemed like forever getting on a bus to the rental car lot, I tried to see if I could get any photos of the Boeing 720 parked on the north side of PHX and used by Honeywell – not chance – all tucked away. Ok, I’ll see if I can get some shots of the based KC-135’s on the other side of the field – nada.

So it was off to Falcon Field. My first port of call were the ramps on the south side. There was stuff littered all over the place as you can see in the photos. There was also a compound with loads of UH-1’s, but it was raining pretty hard, so I couldn’t be bothered.

Next stop was Marsh Aviation. Loads of S-2's, mostly ex JMSDF, some OV-10 Broncos and a couple of HU-16's all squeezed together in the smallish compound.

Around the field to the control tower area and I find more OV-10's a HU-16 and a lovely DC6 that is ex Mexican Air Force acting as a sort of gate guard.

I then visited the local CAF museum (photos not posted), before going to the north side of the field to see the 3 C-54's (DC4) and a couple of ex Fleet Air Arm (FAA = Navy) Canberra TT.18's!

It rained for most of my time at the field and I was there much more time than I had planned, but I bet there are many more gems that I didn’t have time to see – next time.

Next stop was Luke AFB, but I didn’t really get any publish-worthy shots as the lighting as so horrible.
