Kingman Airfield, AZ (KIGM) - 14 Nov 2006 / 5 Nov 2007

Kingman Airfield, AZ is owned by the City of Kingman and is best known as a storage and disposal airfield for old airliners.

Although there doesn’t seem to be as much as in previous years the following is a rough guide of what is stored here:

A group of TWA Express Jetstream 31’s
A group of United Jetstream 31’s
DHL Boeing 727’s seemingly scattered all over the airfield
2 x TWA L1011
1 x Kitty Hawk Boeing 727
1 x Emery DC8

Active aircraft included a C123 of Skymaster Aviation and at least 3 DC4’s and a CL215 from Aeroflite.

I attempted to gain access to the ramps but this proved to be impossible. At the only hanger with any kind of activity (full of CL215’s) I was told to go to the airport manager’s office. There I was bluntly told no in no uncertain terms. The whole time I was here not one aircraft took off or landed – yeah a very busy and dangerous airfield!

Anyway I got some shots by following a dirt road around the fence and standing on the car as the mesh in the fence was too tight.

Some of the long shots have suffered from the effects of heat haze.

update 5 November 2007
Passing by the changes notes were:

The Emery DC8 is no more, as are all the Jetstreams and the DHL 727s being broken down.

The C-123 has been worked on and has a new colour scheme.

As I had more time I found a way to photograph the line of DHL 727s.

As you can tell, in the last year I have got better at processing photos - I hope!
