The CO ARNG were doing hoist training for their State mission which frequently includes Search and Rescues in the Rocky Mountains.

The follow-on training includes live loads and more work in the mountains at altitude. Almost all ARNG Blackhawks are hoist capable, regardless of their mission, and this allows for a quick reconfiguration of the aircraft to perform almost any type of mission.
