Carson City is the Albatross capital of the USA as this is the base of American Warbirds who specialise in restoring, managing, maintaining and selling these aged amphibians.
During my visit there were only 3 examples on the ramp, and there were probably more in the hangar, but the staff were probably off skiing in the nearby mountains!
HU-16C N7141H ( ex USN 131892) was in the worst condition with one engine missing, and this example was taken out of one of AMARC’s surrounding scrap yards and flown here from Tucson where it is currently up for sale.
The white example HU-16C N888AC is obviously a flyer judging by the oil streaked fuselage, but is in dire need of a clean before the oil becomes more permanent.
The last example HU-16B N3395F still shows signs of its USAF colours and the old serial 51-067 can still be seen on the tail.
