I had no idea what to expect at Reno-Stead, but as we pulled into the approach road into the airport we saw an IL-14 sitting on the ramp. This was a first for me, as I had yet to see one of these old Soviet transports.
Entering one of the hangers to ask for permission to enter the ramp for photographs (we are NOT Aeroprints!), the guy we spoke to was connected to the operation that restores most of the ex Eastern Bloc aircraft on the airfield.
He took us to another hanger where a MiG-15 and a blue L-39 was been worked on. He also took us to a compound where there were various airframes and wings stored for future use.
The IL-14 was devoid of its rudder which was stored up high in the original hangar.
Photography of all the aircraft on the field was a challenge – the sun was behinds us, most aircraft were polished metal and the background sky was almost black due to a recent storm.
