Horizon Airport, West Texas, TX (T27) - 3 November 2007

Somewhat out of place in the US, the Vickers Varsity displayed here is an oddity.

It was not in service with the RAF when it made its attempted landing, having been allocated N65338 (ex WJ948/E), it touched down with right main gear off the runway and basically ground looped.

As can be seen from the photos, the aircraft was damaged beyond economical repair and had been on display since 1983.

Oddly the other noteworthy aircraft on site is a Jet Provost T.3A XM464/23 from 1 FTS which is also preserved - what are the chances of two British military aircraft at a place as way out as here?
